Quick Job Seeking Tips
There is plenty of job search advice out there for job seekers, but we thought you might like a few short tips that could help you land your next perfect job, so here we go:
Tailor Your CV For Job Applications
Most people know that one CV and one cover letter will not do it all in this day and age. Tailoring your CV has never been more important. Review your CV for each role you apply for and make sure it suits the position.
Go Beyond Online Job Boards
Most people go straight to online job boards nowadays, but do not limit your chances by using this method alone. Jobs posted online receive very high application numbers, meaning your CV can get lost. So use all avenues that are open to you.
Make Use Of Interview Feedback
Many organisations don’t give feedback unless you make it to the interview stage, but it’s always worth asking. A solid piece of job search advice is that whatever feedback you get, listen to it and take it on board.
Make Friends With Recruitment Agencies
It is true that the employer pays the Agency’s fee and they have relationships with employers. They also probably have a large number of candidates on their books too, so you need to make sure that you keep yourself front of mind. Don’t ring them every day but do ring them regularly.
Go A Step Further With Your Job Search
If you want to work for a particular organisation, contact them. By that I mean either ring the HR Department and enquire about current vacancies of send in your CV explaining who you are, what you’re looking for and how much you’d like to work for their Company.
Leverage LinkedIn
The majority of recruiters are using LinkedIn these days. It’s easy enough to switch ‘current interests’ on your dashboard, which lets employers know you are looking and allows you to contact with recruiters. This is a very easy way to start your job search.
Remove Drunken Selfies
Check out your social media accounts and remove anything that makes you look as though you could be a liability. If you have photographs that you wouldn’t be willing to show a potential boss get them down, don’t embarrass yourself.
Get A Good Photograph For Your Profile Page
Those with a photograph on LinkedIn get more page views. The photo of you cuddling your kitten is fine for Facebook but not on LinkedIn. Keep the photo up to date too, there is nothing worse that interviewing someone whose LinkedIn photo looks nothing like them.
Try Temping
This is something that could definitely help you to find a permanent role. It will also help you pay the bills. Lots and lots of people turn temp roles into permanent positions often in industries they would have never thought to work in before.
Stay Positive
It can be hard if you’ve had a few knocks, but it’s important that you stay positive. Remember to try to get feedback from jobs you have attended interviews for and been unsuccessful and take this on board. It only takes one person to say yes.
