Employers use telephone interviews as a way of identifying and recruiting candidates for employment. Telephone interviews are often used to screen candidates in order to narrow the pool of applicants who will be invited for interview.
WHAT TO DO IN ORDER TO GET A JOB
- Read the job description, know what job you are applying for.
- Research the Company carefully, do your own research on the Internet, also Google the Company to obtain more information.
BE PREPARED
- Keep your CV in clear view so it is at your fingertips when you need to answer questions.
- Be ready to tell the interviewer about yourself.
DURING THE TELEPHONE INTERVIEW - Be Enthusiastic: You are only a CV, a piece of paper to the potential employer. They are likely to have many CV's. Your enthusiasm and energy must stand out.
- Stand whilst on the phone This allows your voice to project and sound more confident.
- Smile: Smiling will project a positive image to the listener and will change the tone of your voice.
- Speak slowly and enunciate clearly: Many people get very nervous during telephone interviews and may have a tendency to mumble into the telephone.
- Use the person's title (Mr. or Ms. and their last name.): Only use a first name if they ask you to.
- Do not interrupt: It is very rude to interrupt the interviewer or to give short answers such as Yes and No.
- Take your time: It is perfectly acceptable to take a moment or two to collect your thoughts.
- Remember your goal: Your goal is to set-up a face-to-face interview.
