If you want to successfully get a job - read this
Congratulations you have passed a first interview and you have been selected to attend a second interview.
You are definitely in contention for the job, although a second interview does not mean you will be offered the role, if anything you need to impress the interviewer more than during your first interview as all applicants selected for second interviews will be suitable for the role and the decision will undoubtedly depend on who performs best at the second interview.
Compared to the first interview you need to be prepared to answer MORE questions, meet MORE people, be MORE prepared and be put under MORE pressure.
You may be asked the same questions you were asked during your first interview. So review the questions you were asked and brush up your responses. Like the first time round, it is good to take some time to practice interviewing, so you are comfortable with your answers.
No matter what, it is extremely important that you take a few minutes before your interview to calm your nerves. Walk around the block or do deep breathing exercises. Read a few passages from an inspirational book or call a supportive, cheerful loved one. Do whatever it will take for you to walk through the door with a genuine smile and a firm, assertive handshake.
Go forward and get that job!
GENERAL SECOND INTERVIEW ADVICE:
Remember to get the basics right.
- Arrive on time - earlier or later than 10 minutes before the interview is simply rude.
- Dress to impress - only a dark business suit will do.
- Make sure your phone is off - do not carry a big bag.
- First impressions count - shake the interviewers hand, look them in the eye and smile, smile, smile.
- Use good body language - look interested at all times.
- Do not discuss salary, holiday, benefits, sick pay etc.
- Never let it appear that it is all about what you want - it should always be about what you can offer the Company.
GENERAL ADVICE
Think back to your first interview.
What areas did the interviewer concentrate on? Be prepared for a more intense focus these subjects.
- Which questions did you find challenging? Be prepared to answer the questions again.
- Do not get distracted - focus and listen carefully to the interviewer.
- Know your skills and strengths and express them with confidence when asked.
- Finally if you feel confident enough and want the job, be brave, and at the end of the interview ask "do you feel I could be the right person for you? By asking this question if the interviewer has any doubts they could be raised, thereby giving you the opportunity of reassuring, reconfirming or re-promoting yourself.
AFTER THE INTERVIEW You have, I hope already sent a thank you note to the people who interviewed the first time. Again take the time to send a thank you letter (e-mail is fine) to everyone you meet at the second interview and reiterate your interest in the Company and in the position you have applied for.
Good Luck
